In 1534, "For the remedy and salvation of her soul," Charlotte Dumay, the childless wife of the King's Treasurer at the Dijon Mint, donated 100 ouvrées of vineyards, fallow land in the Aloxe estate, and a stone house to the Hospices. The donation was recorded in Gothic script on parchment.
This Cuvée des Hospices is among those with the greatest aging potential. It is one of the most sumptuously structured wines of the estate. For a long time, it was a blended cuvée, primarily featuring Corton-Renardes, but today it comes entirely from the LES BRESSANDES climat.
Since its founding in the 15th century by Nicolas Rolin and his wife Guigone de Salins, the Hôtel-Dieu de Beaune has been funded through donations. Over the centuries, the Hospices have become owners of a prestigious wine estate, whose wines have been auctioned since 1859. This charity sale continuously supports the improvement of the new hospital and the preservation of historical monuments such as the Hôtel-Dieu.
