Tasting notes
“The 2022 Pommard Grands Epenots 1er cru has a delighted nose : dark berry fruit and hints of violet and sous-bois, though the floral component lends this an almost Vosne-like allure. The palate is well-balanced with sufficient fruit to support that 50% new oak, which will be subsumed with time. Fine delineation, very harmonious with a silky texture, this will evolve into a precocious yet fresh and detailed Pommard.”

“A clear even crimson. Anne loves it this year. This much more nuanced than either Volnay, and with admirable precision. The 2022 Pommard Grands Epenots is concentrated and elegant at the same time, with excellent length and a silky texture. Very good.”

“The 2020 Pommard Les Grands Epenots 1er Cru has quite a high-toned bouquet with black cherries, prune and cassis aromas. The palate is sweet and candied with succulent ripe tannins, very sweet towards the finish that shows a bit of the 40% new oak. I cannot help feeling this is showing a soupcon of sur-maturité. ”

“Wafting from the glass with notes of plums, sweet soil tones, peonies and warm spices, Anne Morey’s 2019 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots is medium to full-bodied, velvety and dynamic, with a concentrated core of fruit, lively acids and a long, sapid finish.”

89-92 – “This is very ripe though it’s notably fresher with its aromas of poached plum, warm earth and violet nuances. There is excellent punch to the more vibrant and delicious bigger-bodied flavors that once again coat the palate with dry extract that serves to buffer the firm tannins shaping the lengthy finish where the only nit is a touch of warmth. this could likely be approchaed after 5 to 7 years.”
The 2017 Pommard 1er Cru Les Grands Epenots is showing beautifully from bottle, offering up a deep bouquet of ripe berry fruit, plums and cherries mingled with soil tones and hints of blood orange. Medium to full-bodied, with fine mid-palate volume and powdery structuring tannins, this is a lively, elegant Grands Epenots that has realized the potential it showed in barrel.
“This domaine is better-known for its white wines, but the 2015 Grands Epenots, from vines planted in 1965, is a really serious bottle of Pommard that it would be a mistake to overlook. Creamy red-black fruit, subtle notes of grilled meats, spice and gentle framing of new oak mingle in an incipiently complex bouquet, introducing a full-bodied, deep and concentrated wine, structured around supple, elegantly ripe tannins. Terrific juice.” 94 points

“The spicy, tighter but very slowly growing fine and fresh aromas. Large volume, lots of mouth-watering fruit and pretty gorgeousness. Wow wine – not the massive MOST of energy, goal year ingraining quality – just gorgeous stuff.”
15/20 – “Ce vin se présente dans un profil sobre, dans une trame svelte, droite, au fruit croquant et nerveux, aux tanins mats, servi par un élevage discret.”

“Touch of spice and floral fragrance. Good tension in the middle palate with a svelte texture and dark, juicy fruit with light fennel, liquorish.

17/20 – “À la fois sensuel et soyeux, ce premier cru offre un tannin énergique et épicé de bonne dimension.“
“Flowers and spice on the aroma. Good fresh acidity. Ripe, supportive tannins. Peppery. Fine.”

91-93 “A very pure extract of red pinot fruit nose is liberally laced with earth and rose petal hints that give way to rich, full-bodied and tautly muscular medium weight plus flavors that possess mouth coating extract. There is a restrained character to the beautyfully balanced, long and moderately austere finish where the supporting tannins are not only prominent but suggest that a decade or more of cellar time will be required.”
91 points – “A lean, sinewy red, showing a beam of pure cherry, wild berry, mineral and spice notes….”
94 points – “A beautiful rounded wine, full of juicy fruit,…”
