Meursault Les TessonsVillage
Domaine Pierre Morey
- Area (ha) : 0.89
- Average year of plantation : 1978
- Grape variety : Chardonnay
Les Tessons are at the same altitude than premiers crus.
Fine and elegant, complex and "very Meursault style", Les Tessons can age for a long time because of its minerality.
Tasting notes
“2022 suits the classic monastic style of Tesson, thinks Anne, as the sunny season has softened the stricter side of this vineyard. Clear pale lemon. A very complete bouquet, with a delicious second wave of fruit, apple and plum together, and a long racy finish. Very fine. A splendid aftertaste, as there was clearly no stress here in this cooler site.”

“The 2022 Meursault Les Tessons comes from shallower soils than the Les Terres Blanches, roots hitting the limestone bedrock after 30-40 cm. That “calcaire” comes through on the well-defined, minerally nose – not powerful but focused. The palate is well-balanced with a lightly spiced core, weins of stem ginger and lemongrass developing with time in the glass.”
“A tiny crop, the vines not having been protected. A light green edge to the colour. More phenolic on the nose, though that pleases me rather than otherwise. The wood is a bit present at the moment but does not dry the fruit. Solid and weighty, this should work out with a little more elevage.”
Burghound.com – Allen Meadows 2021 – Issue 91
“Pretty, cool and airy aromas include those of pear, citrus, hazelnut and a whiff of acacia blossom. There is fine volume to the intense and attractively textured medium-bodied flavors that conclude in a tightly wound, sneaky long, clean, dry and balanced finale. This does though need to develop better depth and while the ageing track record for this wine is indisputably excellent, at present the wine seems almost simple. We’ll see in time.”
“The 2020 Meursault Les Tessons has a slightly yeasty nose at the moment, showing a little reduction. The palate is well balanced with a fine line of acidity. There is impressive weight for a Village Cru (then again, this is Les Tessons) with a lightly spiced finish. Very fine.”
“The 2019 Meursault Les Tessons has a knockout bouquet of vibrant honeysuckle and lemon thyme aromas flanked by hazelnut. The palate is well balanced with a lovely bitter note that gets the taste buds buzzing. Plenty of energy here, and very harmonious. This is a superb Les Tessons from Anne Morey.”
The Wine Advocate – William Kelley 2021-01 92-94 pts
“The 2019 Meursault Les Tessons is very promising, mingling notes of pear, peach and mandarin oil with hints of toasted bread and blanched almonds. Medium to full-bodied, layered and multidimensional, it’s deep and chiseled, with terrific concentration, racy acids and a long, lively finish.”
Burghound.com – Allen Meadows 2021 – Issue 83
90-92 – “This is more elegant still and cooler as well with its array of lemon zest, freshly sliced fennel and hazelnut scented nose. There is both more volume and mid-palate density to the medium-bodied flavors that are markedly more tightly wound on the youthfully austere, clean and dry finale that is also noticeably more complex. This is always one of the Morey’s most consistent wines and 2019 should only further cement that reputation.”
Burgundy Report – Bill Nanson 2020-12
Malo almost finished.
“This smells very fine – ginger-spiced – a treat. Slips far too easily into the mouth – gliding, guiding you through the middle and finishing flavour. Texturally gorgeous. A great finish. A great villages.”
Hmm, directly there is a more mineral aspect to this nose, still with a faintly spiced accent. A soft entry but such a fine, mouth-watering, flavour. Beautiful texture. Supple, layered finishing. A wine of contemplation despite plenty of energy – vibrantly finishing again – simply lovely…
Robert Parker Wine Advocate – William Kelley 2019-11 91-93 pts
The 2018 Meursault Les Tessons reveals a lovely bouquet that mingles scents of citrus oil and green pear with hints of white flowers, blanched almonds and honeycomb. Medium to full-bodied, textural but racy, it’s beautifully seamless and complete, structured around lively acids and chalky dry extract.

Jancis Robinson 16+/20
The 2017 Meursault Les Tessons is superb—a wine that will be high up on my personal shopping list in this vintage—wafting from the glass with a reserved bouquet of green orchard fruit, lemon oil, crushed chalk and almond paste. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied, deep and layered, with a concentrated, tight-knit core and an almost electric sense of energy, concluding with a long, tangy finish. As usual, it surpasses many of the appellation’s premiers crus.
“A large volume of aroma – a vibration of subtle reduction, becoming ever-more Meursault with spice and a faint floral aspect – a beauty ! Round, melting, beautiful Meursault. Top. So lovely the slightly more mineral and long finish.”
BETTANE ET DESSEAUVE Guide 2018
“In the Morey cellars Les Tessons is a de facto 1er cru, and the 2015 is no exception. A stylish bouquet of green apple, pear, almond cream and white flowers introduces a deep, full-bodied wine with lovely extract and texture, and great mineral grip and length on the finish. Fantastic stuff, from vines planted in 1978.” 94 points
Burgundy Report – Bill Nanson 2016-11
“More green citrus fruit here – clearly a cooler climat vs the last (‘Terres Blanches’). Fresh, energetic, a little encompassing richness but bright. Just a lovely finish too.”
“Lovely length. The best Tessons I have tasted this vintage.”
Bourgogne Aujourd’hui – n°109 16/20
“Robe or-vert, très pure. Nez marqué par une belle réduction grillée. En bouche, c’est à la fois plein, long et tendu. Pas de précipitation.”
16.5/20 – “Nez réservé, épicé, texture serrée, ensemble de grande tension dont la race n’apparaît qu’en rétro-olfaction mais avec une intensité magistrale. Vin de garde par excellence.“
88-90 – “This may be Morey’s consistent wine…the relatively voluminous and concentrated medium-bodied flavors possesse ample dry extract that buffers the firm acid spine on the lightly mineral-infused and mouth coating finish. Lovely…”
Wine Enthousiast – Roger Voss – July 2010
92 points – “The aromas are earthy, rich, and moist soil. The palate is just as rich, opulent wine powered with yellow fruits and a light touch of spice.”
BOURGOGNE AUJOURD’HUI N°89 – août-septembre 2009
88-91 – “The detailed and racy flavors are an indisputable step up in richness and depth, particulary the latter while finishing… Lovely”
89-92 points – “The 2005 version is flat out sensational for its level…Villages level wines rarely offer this kind of quality or ageing potential.”
“Very smooth and refined with tight chalky and stony character, a streamlined profile and a fine mineral finish. A very good and classic Tessons.”
WINE & SPIRITS – April 2007
90 points – “A wine full of character and promise…From a lieu-dit on limestone topped by the small, flinty stones.”
