In Gevrey-Chambertin, Clos de Bèze is one of the oldest vineyards on the Côte de Nuits. It owes its name to the Abbey of Bèze, to which it belonged from 640 to 1219. Ideally situated between its illustrious neighbors, Chambertin to the south and Mazis-Chambertin to the north, it covers approximately 15 hectares. Chambertin shares the imperial crown with Clos de Bèze.
Beneath the very brown soil, one finds hard rock composed of Bathonian silt and scree in the upper part, and Jurassic Bajocian limestone below (numerous fossils can be discovered in this area).
With a dark and rather vibrant color, this wine has a complex and intense texture, offering a voluptuous palate with aromas of black fruit, violet, and undergrowth. The tannins are quite powerful and opulent. It is a wine for long aging that will perfectly complement noble and complex dishes (lamb goes particularly well with it).
